Among the body types, there are those that are really the least prone to increased physical activity. However, there is one caveat: this happens only at the start. In the future, a properly tuned organism is able to show outstanding results, bypassing any of the competitors in terms of somatotype. We are talking about an endomorph-type physique. In this article, we will look at who endomorphs are and how the disadvantages of a slow metabolism become a boon for the athlete.
General information
So, an endomorph is a person with an extremely slow metabolism and thin bones. There is a misconception that all fat people have an inherently slow metabolism.
However, this is not entirely true. Often, a set of excessive body fat has nothing to do with physique, but, on the contrary, contradicts it. Being overweight is usually more associated with metabolic disorders that result from frequent violations of the principles of healthy eating.
Endomorphs are not always overweight. Due to the low metabolic rate, they rarely feel serious hunger and can literally gorge themselves on crumbs from the main table.
People of this type arose thanks to evolutionary processes: endomorphs often had to starve. As a result, they have acquired phenomenal endurance and outstanding adaptive characteristics. However, for these reasons, their muscle mass gains more slowly than glycogen stores, and burns out first. These are typical reactions of an organism in which optimization processes prevail.
Somatotype benefits
Endomorph - who is it really in sports? As a rule, these are powerlifters with huge waists and impressive strength indicators. In general, endomorphs have a number of advantages over other types of physique. Some features of self-type, when used correctly, are especially relevant for maintaining a figure for women.
- Ability to keep in shape. A slow metabolism is not only a curse, but also an advantage. After all, it is thanks to him that you can significantly slow down catabolism and create a favorable anabolic background.
- Less energy consumption. To start, endomorphs only need a little momentum. Their performance grows even after light loads.
- Lower finance costs. Endomorphs are similar to Japanese cars - they consume a minimum of fuel and drive very far. They do not need an extreme calorie content of 5-6 thousand kilocalories. It is enough to add 100 kcal to the usual menu to start the metabolism.
- The ability to easily tolerate any diet without further slowing down the metabolism. Since the body is already optimized for hunger, it will easily begin to sink fat reserves even on the most extreme diets. Further slowing down of metabolism is simply impossible, due to its speed on the verge of a basal minimum.
- The stock of acceleration of metabolic processes. If necessary, dry out or lose most of the weight, ecto and meso may have problems. Endomorphs will never have them. After all, they have overclocking potential. Endomorphs accelerate their metabolism up to 5 times, which leads to almost complete getting rid of excess fat.
- Huge stores of cholesterol. This allows more testosterone to be synthesized. Have you noticed that most bearded people are more fat. They also use excess hormones for training. More testosterone - more muscle - more strength!
Disadvantages of physique
Endomorphs, as well as other types, have their disadvantages, which for most become a stumbling block in achieving serious results in sports.
- The predominance of body fat. Yes, yes ... No matter how we crucify that a slow metabolism is an advantage, most people do not know how to use it. Therefore, most endomorphs are overweight.
- Longer recovery between workouts. A slow metabolism slows down recovery processes between workouts. As a rule, this means that you cannot exercise more than 3 times a week, at least without using additional stimulation from the hormonal system by taking AAS.
- The presence of an increased load on the heart muscle. Overweight and high cholesterol stores are problems for most endomorphs. The heart works at high frequencies all the time, sometimes on the verge of fat burning. Therefore, endomorphs often suffer from heart pain. It is very easy for them to get a "sports heart", therefore, endomorphs should approach cardio loads extremely carefully and constantly monitor their pulse.
Important: despite the external characteristics and descriptions of all three human somatypes, one must understand that in nature there are no pure endomorphs, no mesomorphs, or ectomorphs. This is disadvantageous in terms of evolution. It is possible that you have key characteristics from each somatotype, mistakenly classifying yourself as one of them. But the main mistake is that most obese people blame their somatotype for everything, which is fundamentally wrong. Most often, obesity is a consequence of a violation of dietary plans and an unhealthy lifestyle, and not at all the result of a tendency to gain weight.
Typical characteristics of the somatotype
Before defining an endomorph, you need to pay attention to how such a somatotype, unprepared for sports achievements, appeared. The physique of an endomorph, like a mesomorph and an ectomorph, is the result of long evolution.
Almost all modern endomorphs are, to one degree or another, descendants of people from the northern lands. In the north, people led a predominantly nomadic lifestyle, and their main food was fish, or herbivores. As a result, meals were unstable and infrequent. To adapt to constant hunger, the body gradually slowed down its metabolism and brought the optimization processes to a new level. Therefore, to saturate the endomorph requires significantly less energy than any other type. Endomorphs age more slowly and are rather inactive in their way of life.
Characteristic | Value | Explanation |
Weight gain rate | High | Basal metabolism in endomorphs is aimed at limiting slowing down. As a result, they deposit any excess of calories in energy carriers, namely in the fat depot. This is easily corrected after several years of exercise, when a person develops a large glycogen depot, into which the main reserves of excess calories are redistributed. |
Net weight gain | Low | Endomorphs are the only species in its pure form that is not attuned to increased physical activity. Their main task is a powerful heart that is capable of distilling blood for a long time. All known endomorphs are good marathon runners, since their body is able to use fat instead of glycogen. |
Wrist thickness | Thin | The lack of constant physical activity forms the optimal muscle / bone thickness ratio for the body. Since this is the most optimized human somatotype, bones, as the main consumers of calcium, are reduced. |
Metabolic rate | Very slow | Endomorphs are most adapted to long-term survival in conditions of hunger. Because of this, their initial metabolic rate is significantly lower than that of other somatotypes. |
How often do you feel hungry | Seldom | The reason is the same - slow metabolism. |
Weight gain to calorie intake | High | Basal metabolism in endomorphs is aimed at limiting slowing down. As a result, they deposit any excess of calories in energy carriers - namely in the fat depot. This is easily corrected after several years of exercise, when a person has a sufficiently large glycogen depot, into which the main reserves of excess calories are redistributed. |
Basic strength indicators | Low | In endomorphs, catabolic processes are superior to anabolic ones - as a result, there is no need for large muscles for survival. |
Subcutaneous fat percentage | > 25% L | Endomorphs deposit any excess of calories in energy carriers - namely in the fat depot. |
Endomorph nutrition
Endomorphs should be treated with extreme scrupulousness to nutrition. From the slightest change in the calorie content or combination of products, they immediately lose their performance and shape. On the other hand, with the right diet, this can be easily turned into a plus, since a slow metabolism allows you to stay in shape longer with less effort.
Endomorph workouts
Unlike ectomorphs and mesomorphs, endomorphs are not required to follow their training plan. Their muscle fibers are in perfect balance, allowing the athlete to build both speed and strength and endurance. This means they are easily adaptable to any type of training set.
For the best effect, it's best to create periodization:
- low volume intensive in a circular type;
- pumped high volume as a split.
So the endomorph will develop more evenly and achieve better training results. However, unlike other types, they do not need to do any special training.
But their most important advantage, which allows training to the limit of strength, is the predominance of fat burning over glycogen burning. The endomorph easily gives off excess fat during cardio workouts, since the body, as a result of evolution, more easily breaks down the fat layer in accordance with its main evolutionary purpose.
Outcome
As in the case of other somatotypes, endomorph is not a sentence at all. On the contrary, all the disadvantages are easy to neutralize and even turn into advantages. A low metabolic rate, although it slows down the recovery processes after exercise, helps to better control your own diet. In particular, if an endomorph has reached a dry form with a minimum level of fat, then while maintaining a completely comfortable balance diet, it will be able to maintain its peak shape without harm to health much longer than an ectomorph and even more so a mesomorph.
The muscle tissues gained by the endomorph are practically not lost and, if necessary, are easily replenished during rehabilitation training.
As a result, endomorph is the ideal athlete for tough sports. And remember that the most famous bodybuilders, powerlifters and crossfitters have become so not because of their somatotype, but in spite of it.
Richard Fronning is a prime example of the victory over the somatyp. Endomorph by nature, he was able to accelerate his metabolism to incredible limits and turn weight control into an advantage. Thanks to this, he performed in the same weight every season, showing steadily growing results.
