Optimum Nutrition's Pro Complex Gainer is an enhanced version of the well-known Serious Mass. It differs from other similar products in the uniform content of carbohydrates and protein (85 g and 60 g, respectively, per serving). Includes a mineral and vitamin complex and a minimum amount of fats and sugars.
Net Mass Gainers
Gainers (from the English gain - to receive) are dietary supplements designed for athletes who have difficulty gaining muscle mass. They act in two directions at once:
- Provide additional energy to the body due to carbohydrates.
- They nourish the muscles with amino acids, which are the building blocks of the former.
The difference between the so-called "net mass gainers" is that they contain more protein and less sugar and fat. Thus, they contribute to a set of "dry" mass.
Types and overview of gainers from Optimum Nutrition
Optimum Nutrition gainers are available in two types:
- high-carbohydrate, designed for athletes with a high metabolism who cannot get the right amount of calories from food to gain muscle mass;
- high in protein, high in protein.
Pro Complex Gainer belongs to the second group, but at the same time, the content of carbohydrates is increased in its composition. This proportion (85 g of carbohydrates and 60 g of protein) is aimed at simultaneously gaining muscle mass and replenishing energy costs.
Pro Complex Gainer is available in stores in two volumes:
Volume, g | Servings | Approximate price, rub. | Average price per serving, rub. |
4 620 | 28 | 5 500 | 196 |
2 220 | 14 | 3 100 | 221 |
The obvious disadvantage of the product is its price, which is high not only in comparison with other Optimum Nutrition gainers, but also with similar supplements from other manufacturers.
Among the advantages are:
- good dilution in liquids without the help of special blenders;
- high content of various minerals;
- a composition suitable for women.
Composition
A gainer is a powder for reconstitution in a liquid.
One serving (165 g) contains:
- 650 kcal (of which 70 are in fats);
- 60 g of proteins (7 types of protein: whey protein concentrates and isolates, milk protein isolate, whey hydrolyzate, egg protein, casein);
- 85 g carbohydrates (of which 4 g dietary fiber and 5 g sugar);
- 8 g fat (of which 3.5 g saturated, no trans fats);
- 730 mg potassium;
- 360 mg sodium;
- 50 mg cholesterol;
- vitamin B9 (folic acid), which has a positive effect on immunity and hematopoiesis;
- pantothenic acid - a digestive enzyme that ensures the absorption of the necessary substances;
- triglycerides, which control the energy balance in the body;
- aminogen - a digestive enzyme that promotes the breakdown of proteins and normalizes the digestive tract;
- peptides that help assimilate and synthesize protein;
- a wide range of other vitamins (groups A, B, C, D, E) and minerals (calcium, iron, phosphorus, iodine, zinc, magnesium, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, chloride, boron).
Features and reception scheme
The ready-made mixture should be taken no later than an hour after physical activity - it is at this time that the muscles need energy and protein nutrition. Otherwise, training in terms of gaining muscle mass will be ineffective.
The frequency of administration depends on the needs of the body and the amount of physical activity. Some athletes need 2-3 servings a day, while others need half of one.
The manufacturer's recommended daily intake is 2 g of protein per kilogram of body weight at high loads. To determine a more accurate dosage, you should consult with a trainer and a nutritionist.
It should be borne in mind that the use of a gainer will not provide muscle gain without a number of factors:
- regular workouts with alternating loads on different muscle groups (for each - no more than once every two days);
- balanced nutrition - fruits, vegetables, cereals, meat and dairy products;
- drinking water at least two liters per day;
- correct daily routine, sleep schedule.
Flavor and stirring
For intake, 500 ml of milk, water or juice is poured into a portion of the gainer (one measuring spoon) and stirred until completely dissolved. The consistency should be homogeneous, without lumps. If you pour the powder in a glass of milk and whisk in a blender, you get a ready-to-eat milkshake. It is allowed to add ice to it.
For those who are tired of the standard methods of taking a gainer, you can try other options. For example, its nutritional value is preserved when added to baked goods. You can also make mousses, soufflés, and complex-based nutritional bars.
Pro Complex Gainer is available in stores in several flavors:
- Banana Cream Pie (banana cream pie);
- Double Chocolate (double chocolate);
- Strawberry Cream (strawberry with cream);
- Vanilla Custard (vanilla custard).
According to statistics, most buyers prefer a chocolate-flavored gainer, while strawberry is the least in demand.
