Fish balls, they are fishballs, are very tasty, unusual and at the same time healthy lunch for the whole family! For this recipe, I took cod fillet, but you can also take ready-made minced fish.
Delicate cod fillet is a source of protein, valuable amino acids, macro- and microelements. At the same time, the calorie content of cod is low - only 82 kcal per 100 grams. That is why cod can and should be included in your diet during the diet, as well as for those who do not consume animal meat for any reason.
You can use any other fish you like.
The cinnamon and paprika used in the recipe add flavor to the tomato sauce. Meatballs according to this recipe are very tender, with a rich spicy tomato taste. They will definitely appeal not only to adults, but also to children!

Step-by-step instruction
Further, step by step with photographs, we will go through each stage of cooking fish balls in tomato sauce.
Step 1
If you are using fillets, not minced meat, then the first thing you need to do is cut the fish into pieces and grind in a blender or in a meat grinder. If you use minced meat, then skip this item. Put the minced meat in a deep bowl. Add eggs and chopped dill there (if using). The egg will allow the meatballs to maintain their shape during the cooking process. Mix well.
Step 2
Then add crackers and salt to the mixture. Stir the fish mass until smooth.
Step 3
We begin to form meatballs. Prepare in advance a large dish on which you will lay out the finished balls. Take about a tablespoon of minced fish each time and form a small ball about the size of a walnut. When all the balls are ready, send them to the refrigerator.
If you are making meatballs for the future, then at this stage prepare them for freezing. To do this, put them at some distance from each other on a platter or tray and send them to the freezer for a couple of hours. Then transfer the frozen meatballs to a container. In this form, the meatball blanks can be stored in the freezer for several months.
Step 4
Now let's start preparing the sauce.
Chop the onion and garlic finely.
Step 5
Take a large deep skillet. Heat some vegetable oil over a fire and fry the onion and garlic until transparent. Add tomatoes in your own juice, spices, sugar and salt. If you suddenly feel that the sauce is too thick, then you can add 50-100 ml of water. Stir well and bring to a boil.
Step 6
Remove the meatballs from the refrigerator and gently place them in the sauce pan.
Step 7
Simmer for 5-10 minutes, covered, and then gently turn each meatball over with a fork. Do not rush so that the meatballs do not fall apart. Such a simple procedure will allow each meatball to be saturated with sauce from all sides. Cover and simmer for another 20-30 minutes.
Serving
Put the finished meatballs in tomato sauce hot in portioned plates. Add your favorite greens, vegetables, or any side dish of your choice. For fish dishes, boiled rice, bulgur, quinoa, and any vegetables are best.
Enjoy your meal!
