Running is one of the most rewarding sports. It was the first and at first the only sport in the famous Olympic Games. For millennia, running itself has not changed in technology. Types of running began to appear: with obstacles, in place, with objects.
People at all times tried to make running as comfortable as possible, so that training would bring as much pleasure as possible. We chose the most comfortable clothes and shoes for running, improved methods of treatment in case of injuries, and developed medicine.
The achievements of the last century allowed people to listen to music individually, without disturbing those around them. The player and headphones from an exotic novelty in the late 90s turned into everyday attributes.
Athletes immediately adopted the invention, because many will agree that it is more enjoyable, more fun and even more effective to do exercises with suitable music. And research confirms that any workout is much more effective if it is done with music.
What music is best for running?
Running is a rhythmic sport. Constantly repeating the same movements are very convenient to fit into the appropriate rhythm of the song. This, above all, allows you to keep the pace and not get lost. Therefore, the music must be selected appropriately: relatively fast, rhythmic, invigorating, danceable.
Probably, among the runners there are also sophisticated lovers of classics or those who like to run to natural sounds, but they are rather in the minority, and most athletes prefer energetic tracks.
Many athletes choose special compositions for themselves in playlists in order to associate themselves with the heroes of the song or to imagine around what is being sung in the track. It is much more interesting to be a knight-liberator and run towards an evil dragon than it is boring to cut circles around the stadium.
The musical accompaniment as a whole distracts from thoughts like "how many more circles?", "I'm already tired, maybe that's enough?"
Practice consistently shows that, with audio accompaniment, a person runs on average a long distance and gets tired less than if the run was done without music.
Typically, a run consists of the following steps:
- a small warm-up for 5 minutes;
- set of pace;
- at the end there may be an acceleration (no more than 10% of the entire run);
- rest and transition to a calm state (usually walking with intense breathing).
Warm up
For warm-up, you can use music that sets you up for further achievements. Not necessarily dance music. For example, it could be Queen's “We are the champions”.
Speed gain
To gain speed, you can use compositions that are rhythmic, but quite smooth. Classical disco, modern melodic and dance music.
The training itself
When the speed is picked up, and you just need to run a certain distance, turn on a playlist of intense, metronome-like, rhythmic dance music that, above all, pleases your ear. And already at the stage of "maximum acceleration" include the fastest track.
However, do not get carried away with overly rhythmic works, as they can, on the contrary, knock you off your pace. On vacation, you can already put - whoever - classics, a pleasant relaxing melody, slow dances, just a beautiful opera song.
Running music equipment and optimal settings
In running, the main thing is that the music should help, not interfere. Constantly falling out headphones, a poorly secured player - all this can force a runner to abandon the idea of musical accompaniment.
Therefore, learn to properly equip with equipment:
- for players, phones, purchase special bags-covers that can be put on a belt or on the arm. Holding your phone or player in your hand is not the best option;
- Choose your headphones carefully so that they fit securely in your ears. Use rubber attachments for better attachment. Closed-back headphones are not recommended for jogging, as you may not hear important environmental sounds. Don't make the sound too loud.
Disadvantages of running to music
In addition to the positive aspects, jogging with music has several disadvantages:
- you do not hear (do not hear well) your body, breathing, movements of arms and legs. You may not hear a shortness of breath or an unpleasant creak of one of the sneakers;
- the rhythm of the song does not always coincide with the inner rhythm of the runner. Compositions change, running intensity changes, forced slowdowns or accelerations occur;
- you do not hear (do not hear well) the sounds of the surrounding space. Sometimes it is vitally important to react in time to the signal of an approaching car, the barking of a dog chasing you not at all with the intention of playing, the whistle of a train approaching the tracks, the laugh of a child who suddenly ran out in front of you to get the ball.
You can ignore the shout "Girl, you lost the hairpin!" or "Young man, your handkerchief fell!" Therefore, the music must be turned on at such a volume so that you can hear everything that is happening around, no matter how much you want to disconnect from this world and immerse yourself in training.
Approximate selection of jogging tracks
If you do not have personal preferences for music for jogging, you can use the huge number of collections of ready-made tracks offered on the Internet. The tracks are usually called "running music".
You can download collections on many sites by simply typing the query "fast music for running" in the search engine. It may include compositions by artists such as John Newman, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Underworld, Mick Jagger, Everclear. Be sure to listen to the entire playlist before training and determine whether you personally like this particular selection or not.
Running music reviews
“Drum'n'bass music is good for running. But it should be remembered that this genre is ambiguous, with several subgenres. Neurofunk is good for running fast, Jungle is also good. On the middle run, it is better to put microfunk, liquid funk or jump-up. Drumfunk is good for slow running. "

"I recommend Ministry of sound - Running trax, for me it is very cool music for sports, in particular for running"
Ksenia Zakharova, student
“I'm probably not very traditional, but I run to rhythmic metal folk music like In Extremo. The sounds of the bagpipes fascinate me, and the rock component itself puts the body in the right rhythm "
Mikhail Remizov, student
“In addition to practicing tan, I run a lot, and Irish ethno-mitivs help me in this, in which there is both rhythm and amazing beauty of music. When I run to Irish dance songs, I feel like I am among the clear mountain peaks, breathe in the fresh frosty air, and the wind caresses my loose hair. "
Oksana Svyachennaya, dancer
“I prefer to run with or without music depending on my mood. I run without music in training, when I need to develop a tempo, and the coach does not allow it. But in my free time I have “music for running” in my headphones, which I downloaded in large quantities once on one of the sites. It is not so important for me what is sung about in the music - it is important for me to regulate the rhythm of running with the help of certain compositions. Also, I listen to the response of my body, so music is not paramount. "
Ilgiz Bakhramov, professional runner
“The (disk) player was given to me by my grandchildren for the New Year, so that it would be more interesting to dig in the garden. And I have always been running. But that you can combine music and jogging I found out by accident - I watched an advertisement on TV. I strapped the player onto my belt, put on a disc with the music of my youth: Abba, Modern Talking, Mirage - and tried it. In our village they looked at me strangely at first, then they got used to it. I don't make loud music - you never know who has a chain dog not tied. I am still grateful to my grandchildren for the player "
Vladimir Evseev, pensioner
“As a kid grew up, I decided to take on myself. Of course, I started with running, as with the most accessible sport. A child in a nursery - herself with a player for a run. Since I have more than enough noise in my life, and my head is constantly in worries, I found sounds of natural nature on one of the sites: the sound of rain, birdsong, the wind blowing. In training, my body strains, and my brain rests. Who knows: maybe eventually I'll switch to intense music. "
Maria Zadorozhnaya, young mother
Correctly selected music for running, correctly fixed equipment, the right volume - all this will turn your every run into a journey full of pleasure and good emotions.
