Running 500 meters. Standard, tactics, advice.

Running 500 meters is not an Olympic distance. This distance is also not run at the world championships. In addition, world records are not recorded at the 500 meters. schoolchildren and students take the 500 m run standard in educational institutions.

2. Tactics of running for 500 meters

Running 500 meters can be classified as a sprint. Since it is believed that the longest sprint is 400 meters, and 600 and 800 are already average distances, judging by the pace and running tactics, 500 meters can be called a sprint.

Therefore, the tactics of running 500 meters are no different from running tactics for 400 meters... On a long sprint, it is very important not to "sit down" at the finish line.

For the first 30-50 meters, do a powerful acceleration to pick up the starting speed. After a sharp increase in speed, try to keep it, or, if you understand that you started too quickly, then slow down quite a bit. Finish acceleration should be started 150-200 meters before the finish line. Most often at the finish line in 100 meters legs become "stake" and it is difficult to move them. Running speed drops significantly. It is caused by the build up of lactic acid in the muscles. Unfortunately, there is no way to completely get rid of it, and the legs clog up in athletes of any rank. But to reduce this effect and make the finish faster, you need to exercise regularly.

3. Tips for running 500 meters

500 meters is a very fast distance, so you need to devote a lot of time to warm-up. Well-warmed muscles will be able to show your maximum possible result. What exactly should be a warm-up, read the article: warm-up before training.

Run in shorts. It is not uncommon for the standards for short distances in schools and universities to be passed in sweatpants. It is not recommended to do this, as they impede movement and reduce running speed. And since at 500 meters runners usually have wide strides, sweatpants will greatly interfere with running.

At the finish line, use your hands more often to run faster. The legs no longer obey, but they will try to move with the same frequency as the hands, therefore, despite the fact that there will be no synchronization, accelerate the movement of your hands at the finish line for 50 meters.

Choose shoes with shock-absorbing surface. Do not run in sneakers that have thin, flat soles.
