The running disciplines in athletics are basic. There are a lot of types of running, and almost all of them are Olympic.
A distinction is made between short-distance running or sprint, medium-distance running, long-distance running or distance running, steeplechase or steeplechase running, hurdling and relay running.
Let's consider each of these types in more detail.
Short distance running
Sprint running is the most popular in track and field athletics, both among athletes and fans. The sprint contains the following distances for which the discharge norms are fulfilled: 30 m, 50 m, 60m, 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m... The world elite in this kind of running are athletes from Jamaica and the USA.
Middle distance running
Middle distances are an intermediate link between sprint and long runs, which is why some sprinters can run an average distance of 800 meters well, and vice versa, middle athletes can run a sprint 400 meters well. The same goes for long distances.

Kenyans and Ethiopians are rightfully considered the best middle-class athletes. However, it is not uncommon for European runners to compete with them. So, the Russian athlete Yuri Borzakovsky became the Olympic champion in 2004 at a distance of 800 meters.
Long distance running
Any distance greater than is considered long. 3000m... Runners who run such distances are called stayers. There is also such a discipline as daily running, when an athlete must run as much distance as possible in 24 hours. World leaders in such a run can run all the time without stopping and run more than 250 km.
At these distances, there is complete hegemony of Kenyan and Ethiopian runners who do not give a chance to anyone else.
Running with obstacles
In this type of running, the athlete has to overcome obstacles set around the stadium. Also one of the obstacles contains a water pit. The main types of steeplechase are running 2000 meters in the arena and 3000 meters in the open air.
In this kind of running, European runners and runners perform well.
Hurdling.
Not to be confused with the steeplechase. This discipline is a subsection of the sprint, only barriers are installed at the distance. Unlike steeplechase barriers, barriers are thin and fall easily.
There is a 50m hurdle race. 60m, 100m, 110m, 300m, 400m.
In hurdling, there is no nation that stands out from the rest. It is not uncommon for European, Asian and American athletes to rank high in this sport.
