- optimal selection of basic workouts;
- bringing the body to the main competition at peak form.
The main types of training concentrate on the following elements:
- high-speed, short-term work aimed at improving the technique and increasing the step frequency;
- work for 2-6 minutes at a competitive pace in order to increase the IPC;
- tempo jogging for 20-40 minutes without accumulation of lactic acid in the body;
- endurance running;
- light, restorative running.
Theoretical basis and concepts used in the book
The book consists of two parts - "Running Physiology" and "Purposeful Training". The first part provides detailed information on the key physiological factors, which influence the athlete's performance in running:
- maximum oxygen consumption;
- basic speed;
- pure endurance;
- anaerobic threshold;
- purity of the heart.
The chapters describing the training plans contain physiologically based information that covers:
- prevention of overtraining and dehydration;
- eyeliner for the competition;
- competitive tactics;
- features of training women;
- glycogenic saturation;
- warm-up and cool down;
- recovery;
- injury issues.
Competition Preparation Tips
The second part was devoted to the preparation of runners for distances of: 5, 8 and 10 km, from 15 km to half marathon, 42 km and cross. In the chapters of this part, through the prism of physiology, the training of an athlete at each distance is considered.
The authors reveal the role of physiological indicators at each of the distances, paying close attention to the indicators that should be emphasized in preparation for the main start.
The book presents conversion factors that allow, based on the data obtained for other distances, to predict the result at the main running distance. At the end of each chapter there are training plans based on the runner's fitness, tactical and psychological advice.
The use of these training principles is illustrated by examples of famous runners in their preparation for the most important starts.

Book Reviews
One of the best self-training books. Written simply and clearly to the point. I advise everyone!

Recently I got carried away by running and very by the way my friends recommended this book. There are many good tips here, there are good plans for training runners of all levels. Everything is very cool and affordable! The book is just for those who study independently. The only drawback is the lack of broader coverage of nutritional issues in runner training. I advise you to purchase.
Teteryatnikova Alexandra
The title fully justifies the content. The first part discusses running physiology: endurance, base speed, VO2 max, heart rate control, injury prevention. In the second part, training plans are presented, and depending on the level of the runner, several plans are presented. It is attractive that these plans are illustrated with examples from the competitive practice of famous runners.

I have long dreamed of purchasing this book. Unfortunately, she disappointed me, I did not learn anything new. Price and content are not as expected. Very sorry.
