The indisputable fact that oxygen is a gas necessary for life for all living organisms. Breathing is a natural physiological process that many people never think about.
It so happens that a person does not have enough oxygen, this condition is very often manifested by a corresponding reaction - shortness of breath. What can be the cause, and what drugs can help in the fight against this deviation in the body?
Causes of shortness of breath while running
More than one person gave up running due to shortness of breath at the initial stage of training.
Newbies start to complain about:
- lack of air;
- difficulty breathing;
- heavy loads.
And of course, faced with, as it seems to beginners, with such difficulties, some are in a hurry to immediately part with a healthy lifestyle, not assuming that there are ways to help run, and at the same time breathe easily.
To begin with, breathing problems can start from:
- Overweight.
- Bad habits, alcohol consumption, smoking.
- Lack of stress.
- Nervous strain.
It should be noted that the endurance required for running can be developed quickly and easily. After 7 weeks, after the start of training, the athlete himself will see noticeable changes in breathing, jogging will become much more pleasant.
But it will be hard to remove excess weight and eliminate smoking. Some find it easier to live with shortcomings, and say: “nothing helps,” than to deal with them. Therefore, if there is a desire to somehow change your life, you should not, no matter how hard and difficult, follow the lead of your vices and laziness.
If a person improperly planned his workout, then shortness of breath will be an indicator of this. Often beginners start running at a "fast pace", believing that "slow" will not bring results. I would like to convince you otherwise, slow running has a positive effect on the heart and blood vessels, triggers metabolic processes, which contributes to weight loss.
If you start to choke, slow down. Reducing the speed, control the breathing - it did not help, slow down the pace up to walking.
Shortness of breath medications
To begin therapy for shortness of breath, it is necessary to undergo a complete diagnosis to identify the etiology of this symptom.
Treatment is carried out using the following groups of medications:
- glycosides;
- ACE inhibitors;
- diuretics;
- vasodilators;
- anticholinergics;
- beta-adrenergic agonists;
- statins;
- anticoagulants;
- antithrombotic agents.
But we must not forget that these drugs are taken as prescribed by a doctor, self-medication leads to adverse reactions and even death.
Furosemide
This drug belongs to diuretics, such drugs are usually prescribed for the treatment of shortness of breath in cardiac abnormalities.
Furosemide is a "loop" diuretic that can help with the following diseases:
- Nephrotic syndrome.
- Liver pathology.
- Renal failure.
- Arterial hypertension.
This medicine, for cardiac dyspnea, inhibits the absorption of chloride and sodium ions. Thanks to the active component of the drug, the load on the main muscle in the body is reduced, which is why an anti-hypertensive effect occurs. Taking these pills, shortness of breath gradually recedes, and the person feels an improvement in his condition.
But we must not forget about the side reaction, the doctor gives permission to use this drug, independent use of the drug is not acceptable.
Metoprolol
The appointment of the drug occurs with shortness of breath against the background of heart failure. The medication is a hypotensive effect.
Having taken it, the load on the heart decreases, the pulse and blood pressure return to normal in young and old people. This drug has been successfully used since the 80s of the last century.
But it is not suitable for everyone, with pathological courses of diseases:
- Angina pectoris.
- Arterial hypertension.
- Arrhythmias.
- Acute myocardial infarction.
- Frequent episodes of migraine.
All appointments are made only by the attending specialist.
Verapamil
This medication is also used to eliminate shortness of breath in heart failure. The medication belongs to the group of calcium channel blockers.
It turns out to them:
- hypotensive;
- antiarrhythmic;
- antiangial effect.
The active component of the drug blocks calcium channels located in the heart, blood vessels, bronchi, uterus, urinary tract. As a result, there is a decrease in muscle tone, from which the myocardium requires less oxygen.
If the medication is taken incorrectly, then it can be harmful to health. Therefore, this medication must be taken according to the scheme prescribed by the doctor, because there are a number of contraindications.
Torasemid
This drug is also a diuretic. The main effect of the drug is due to the reversible binding of torasemide to the counterporter of sodium, chlorine, potassium ions, which is located in the apical membrane of the thick segment of the ascending part of Henle's loop.
Due to this, the absorption of sodium ions is reduced or inhibited, the osmotic pressure of the intracellular fluid and water absorption are reduced.
Also, aldosterone receptors in the myocardium are blocked, fibrosis decreases and diastolic myocardial function improves. Torasemide is more active in comparison with other similar medicines, and a long-term effect on the body. But this medication should be taken with caution, as there are many contraindications.
The manifestation of shortness of breath is a good reason to see a doctor, no matter how it started: while jogging or for another reason. It can accompany many diseases not only of the respiratory, but also of the cardiovascular system, not always equally disturbing a person.
It should be noted that its manifestations are not always harmless, ending in a favorable outcome. Therefore, it is better to undergo an examination once again and make sure that everything is in order than to miss the moment and treat a severe course of the disease.
